Ballet Teacher and Choreographer

Began his career in Russia at the Novosibirsk Ballet Academy with a Bachelor Degree of Ballet Artist, and in Moscow at the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts, knows as GITIS, with Master’s degree of Ballet Teacher and Choreographer. As a principal dancer, he toured throughout the world with the Novosibirsk Theatre of Opera and Ballet, with Moscow Classical Ballet and with the Russian State Ballet. He also performed on such world-renowned stages as the Bolshoi Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the Mariinsy Theatre and the Vienna State Opera. In 1998, he joined the New Jersey Ballet Company as a principal dancer.

 

He captured the attention of critics and audiences with his powerful technique and dramatic dances in Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Coppelia, Esmeralda, Romeo and Juliet, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Spartacus, Macbeth and many others. His repertory includes the works of such famous international choreographers as Marius Petipa, George Balanchine, Yury Grigorovich, Vladimir Vasilev and other acclaimed masters.

Mr. Dournev was invited to perform as guest star with the Russian Imperial Ballet under the direction of Maya Plisetskaya. He won silver and bronze medals at International Ballet competitions in 1990 and 1992.  While working with the New Jersey Ballet Company, he also choreographed classical production of Macbeth, the Love and Death of Spartacus, Esmeralda, Nutcracker, Coppelia, Swan Lake, produced contemporary pieces “Never Ending Story” and “Creation of the World”,  and designed special performances for children of the dance school.

He was invited to teach and choreography for dozens of ballet schools and companies all over the USA and Russia. His professionalism, charisma, inviting personality, and energy offer the serious ballet student as well as those just getting started a powerful role model for enhancing skills.

Now Konstantin Dournev has come to Hunter, NY with his wife, prima ballerina, Julia Vorobyeva and has fulfilled their dream of establishing the Academy of Dance and Creative Arts.

As an impressive and beautiful ballet artist and prima ballerina, she wins the hearts of all who experience her delicate, refined performances.

Treating audiences to significant repertoire of masterful performances, Ms. Vorobyeva has scored tremendous success in her ballet career with starring roles in such famous ballets as Giselle, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Macbeth, Spartacus, Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping Beauty, and Allegro Brilliant, Conchetto Barocco, Sylvia Pas De Deux, Who Cares, Raymonda of Balanchine and other beautiful pieces of acclaimed masters. She received great critical acclaim, and the New York Times ballet critic Anna Kisselgoff praised her work in the title role of ballet “Esmeralda” with New Jersey Ballet Company.

Ms. Vorobieva’s career began in Moscow at the world famous Bolshoi Ballet Academy with a Bachelor Degree of Ballet Artist, and the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts, known as GITIS, with Master’s degree of Ballet teacher and Choreographer. She toured throughout the world as a principal dancer with the Moscow Classical Ballet and Russian State Ballet. She performed in the legendary Bolshoi Theatre, Vienna State Opera and on other famous stages of the world.  From 1998 through 2008, Ms. Vorobyeva was with New Jersey Ballet Company as a principal dancer.

As a teacher, Ms. Vorobyeva in praised for her extraordinary ability to work with today’s young generation of dancers. In teaching, her love of ballet shines through. Her thorough knowledge of the most current as well as traditional style and teaching methods produces professional dancers who are sought after to join some of the most prestigious dance programs and companies in the world.

Now Julia Vorobyeva has come to Hunter, NY with her husband, master ballet dancer and choreographer, Konstantin Dournev, and fulfilled their dream of establihing the Academy of Dance and Creative Arts.
